Itamar Sagi

Alex Smoke

Soma are proud to welcome Itamar Sagi for a very special guest 12” on the label. The Israeli producer, signed to the outstanding Be As One stable of artists, first appeared on Soma on the 4th instalment of Soma’s acclaimed Sci-Fi Hi-Fi series, mixed by Funk D’Void, with the track that got him right under the nails of every first-rate DJ on the planet, Black Gold. A sublime combination of classic Detroit techno and Chicago house, all held together with some saintly deep pads, this one went off a bomb.

One Million Oaks picks up immediately where Black Gold left off. Maintaining his now trademark stabs, Itamar takes it even deeper with this release, immersing the track in a sea of sound, thrilling the floors with crescendoing waves of pure energy. Again on this one there’s a distinct homage to Detroit and Chicago but Itamar’s production is so advanced it easily avoids sounding like just another one of those old-school rehashes that too many producers churn out.

On the flip Funk D’Void steps up on remix duties. Lars Sandberg is no stranger to Itamar’s work. Aside from Black Gold’s inclusion on the aforementioned Sci-Fi Hi-Fi mix, Lars is a good friend of Itamar and has also remixed Blonda, a track co-written by Sagi and label-mate Shlomi Aber, His remix of One Million Oaks has Lars’ name written all over it. A much housier version of the original with a fat slab of groove to boot, FDV hits the mark once again with an edit that brings the sunshine back to the winter months.
