This week’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix comes from Soma Records’ label heads Slam. 2008 has seen Slam explode once more in what has been one of their busiest years ever. In between constant touring the guys have recently started their new self-release label Paragraph, focussing on the darker side of electronic dance music. Paragraph has already been picking up huge plays with the first single ‘City Destroyer’ and features on this week’s Essential Mix with upcoming single ‘The One Note Samba’.
Also featured on the mix you can hear an unreleased Joris Voorn remix of Slam’s ‘Ghost Song’. The guys have been busy working with some of the world’s biggest producers lately and have remixes currently coming in from Paul Ritch (Positive Education), Prompt (Ghost Song) and The Black Dog (Azure), not to mention their own recent remix work for Unkle, Radioslave, Sasha and Subban,
The Essential Mix broadcast celebrates the 10th birthday of Slam’s legendary Pressure club nights and the 20th year of Slam long involvement in the industry, be it throwing roof-raising parties at their club nights, producing the most forward-thinking house and techno around, working the talent of their Soma Records roster or simply playing out to their legions of fans. This is one not to be missed.
