Weed is a method of encoding audio and video files aimed at changing the way we download and share music. Weed makes sure that rights holders get paid for producing their music and fans get rewarded for distributing it. ‘Way Up High’ will be offered to fans as a free, try before you buy download. They can then play the track three times for free on any PC. After three free plays they are asked to pay for the file. Once they purchase ‘Way Up High’, they are free to play it on up to three PCs. They can also burn the files to CD and play them on a stereo, or transfer them to Windows compatible portable devices.
Best of all, the file can be shared with anyone (by P2P network, by e-mail, Web download, FTP, IRC, or on CD/DVD) as long as the files remain in their original form as Windows Media files.
