Sobek

Biography

AGES AGO In the mythical time of ancient Egypt, pyramid music lovers danced the night away to the rituals of Sobek the mad Crocodile God.

NOW Sobek lives again

These evangelists of deep house music are the latest addition to the ever-expanding Soma roster. Comprising of Universal Principles producer Glenn Gibbons and Glasgow DJ / Producer Colin McLaren, their debut release ‘Nightime Rituals’ is house music at its best. These two tracks are melodic late night grooves which were firm favourites with whole a host of house DJ's.

Glenn needs no introduction to Soma fans, as one of the label founders he is now head of A&R and a director of the company. His musical pedigree is second to none and has seen him engineer Slam’s ‘Eterna’ and ‘Positive Education’, in the early nineties he and Jim Moutune formed the highly respected ‘Rejuvination’. Their ‘Introduction’ album was the first artist album to appear on Soma and singles like ‘IBO’, ‘Requiem’ and ‘Don’t Forget Who You Are’ are still considered classics. Since then Glenn has recorded on his own as ‘Equus’ and formed the excellent jazz house outfit ‘Universal Principles’ with Slam’s Stuart McMillan and Nick Peacock.

Colin has been Djing for nine years and is good friends with the Silicone Soul guys. He is a resident at their ‘Relief’ night and also regularly plays with Slam at ‘Freelance Science’. He got into the production side of things three years ago.

Sobek are certainly ones to watch out for and are currently working on an album for Soma.
